Compliance

Axel Springer is committed to responsible corporate management. “Entrepreneurship”, creativity, and integrity are the core values that shape how we see ourselves and our corporate culture.

Compliance – i.e. conforming to legal requirements and corporate policies, as well as voluntary self-commitments – is a fundamental element of integrity. Violations of the law and the Code of Conduct are not tolerated at Axel Springer.

In order to assure compliance with laws, voluntary self-commitments, and corporate policies, Axel Springer has introduced a Group-wide Compliance Management System.

Code of Conduct

The Code of Conduct is part of the compliance organization and should be regarded as a summary of the rules of behavior at Axel Springer. In a generalized form, it describes the requirements for legally unobjectionable behavior, and thereby helps all employees assess whether a transaction or a decision is or is not permissible.

Complementing this broad and general code, the corporate guidelines provide detailed rules for individual subject areas.

Whistleblower system

To report possible compliance violations, Axel Springer offers employees, business partners, and customers a whistleblower system. In addition to the Code of Conduct, the whistleblower system is an important component of the Compliance Management System.

Reports can be made by telephone, E-mail, letter, or in a personal conversation with the Chief Risk & Compliance Officer. An online whistleblower system has additionally been available since September 2015, allowing a protected dialog between the whistleblower and select individuals in the Compliance Department at Axel Springer. The whistleblower himself decides whether to provide his name or to remain anonymous.

Whistleblowers are required to provide only information which they assume to be accurate and where one believes, to the best of one’s knowledge, that an employee or executive at Axel Springer is not acting with integrity.

By using the whistleblower system, Axel Springer is taking a step to correct misconduct and prevent shortcomings through preventive measures.

Compliance Committee

The Compliance Committee consists of representatives from various units. The Compliance Committee works across all units to promote compliance with the rules in the individual units. Its goal is to encourage changes preventively and to jointly create an awareness that violations of laws and rules can cause long-term damage to the reputation of Axel Springer, in addition to the economic damage.
