Social Performance Indicators

This is where the heart of Hamburg's news beats: Everyone responsible from the various news departments sits together in the HAMBURGER ABENDBLATT newsroom. Print and online editors work at one desk. More than 3,000 journalists work at Axel Springer. The company pursues a responsible and sustainability-oriented personnel policy in which the systematic development of employees is paramount.

Axel Springer employed an average of 10,740 employees (previous year: 10,666) in 2009 (excluding apprentices and journalism students/trainees). The number of employees increased primarily through new investments and start-ups in the field of digital media both in Germany and abroad. 21.7% of employees were employed here already by the end of the year.

The right menu bar documents the staff figures – according to occupational groups, locations, gender and age – as well as the average length of service, absence rates and the accident statistics.
