Sustainability reports document a company's most important social, societal, environmental and economic topics.
The present Sustainable Development Report describes the development for the years 2008 and 2009 with the aid of indicators and measures. The quantitative information was verified by the auditing company PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
With a “LEVEL A+” Axel Springer AG once again publishes a Sustainability Report which complies with the requirements of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) at the highest Application Level.
As early as 2007 the company was the first media enterprise worldwide to publish a Sustainability Report with a "Level A +", corresponding to the maximum GRI criteria.
The next Sustainability Report will be published in the fall of 2012.

Sustainability Reports emerged as a further development of the Environmental Reports published by companies in the 1990s. They pick up on the main topical aspects of sustainability: Social policy, Environment and Economy. Alongside the Annual Report, the Sustainability Report is an important part of a company's information policy.
Since 2005, the Sustainability Reports of companies in Germany have been compared and evaluated in a ranking by the Institute for Environmental Management and Economics (IÖW) and future e.V. This competition is the continuation of the rankings of Environmental Reports carried out in 1994, 1996, 1998 and 2000.
