To press release overview

The prize is endowed with 10,000 euros

On the occasion of the award of the Axel Springer Prize for Young Journalists, Axel Springer Akademie is this year offering an European Special Award of 10,000 euros for the topic "1914 -2014. What we have (not) learned from history". Applications can now be submitted to http://www.axel-springer-preis.de/1914. Closing date for entries is  January 15th , 2015.

The invitation to tender for the Special Award targets young journalists and publicists who are no older than 33 years and who have in 2014 produced contributions on the First World War and its influence on the history of Europe, regardless of format or desk. The publications should broadly address the following issues: Has Europe changed so much that a return to armed conflict such as that which erupted in 1914 can be ruled out? What lessons has Europe learned from "the terrible 20th century"? Has history made Europe wiser? Contributions must be submitted in the national language along with an English or German translation.

The award is endowed with 10,000 euros. The winners will be chosen by an independent jury chaired by historian and publicist Prof. Dr. Arnulf Baring. The winners will receive the European Special Award during the ceremony of the Axel Springer Prize for Young Journalists in Berlin on April 29th, 2015.

Application and further information can be found at: www.axel-springer-preis.de/1914.
