Axel Springer strengthens internal cooperation internationally: Romanus Otte to assume responsibility for development and management of the "Axel Springer Global Network"

To press release overview

Axel Springer is strengthening cooperation within the company by creating the "Axel Springer Global Network". The aim is to improve collaboration, a stronger exchange and learning across brands between editorial departments and all other business units across the company. The network is intended to help Axel Springer's diverse brands and departments improve the way they use knowledge and creativity, supporting the company's transformation into one of the world’s leading digital publishers.

Romanus Otte, 53, will assume responsibility for the development and management of the network as of November 15, 2015. As General Manager, he has been responsible for the digital products of DIE WELT for five years. Before that, he was member of the editorial board of WELT Group for five years. He is currently spending two-and-a-half months in Mountain View as part of the “Axel Springer Silicon Valley Fellowship”.

Dr. Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer SE: "Axel Springer has developed into a global group of companies. Part of our formula for success is to give our editorial departments and the companies within our company the greatest possible freedom. The idea of setting up this network came about during the last trip by the editors-in-chief and shows that there is a desire to improve the way we use the huge opportunities that cooperation within the global Axel Springer family can offer. The network will be considered a success if, for example, we can say at the end of next year that we have improved research in the editorial departments as a result of closer exchange, or that we were able to learn from each other more quickly in the areas of product development and marketing. Romanus Otte has in-depth knowledge of all the journalistic, technological, product-related and economic aspects of managing digital growth projects, so he is particularly suitable for this new task."

"I am very much looking forward to my new role – and to working with many like-minded colleagues," said Romanus Otte. "The Axel Springer Network is for everyone who believes that we can achieve more by working together: even better journalism, better products and more business success. Our principle is voluntary participation. Nobody will be required to join; the idea is that it will convince people by good examples. This is what I would like to encourage and I am certain we can do it."
