It will seem for the viewer as if they are almost live experiencing the exclusive tour that basketball player Dirk Nowitzki gives BILD reporter Matthias Marburg through his sports home in Dallas as well as demonstrating his ball handling skills live.

Julian Reichelt, editor-in-chief BILD Digital: “Following on from our 360 degree videos, this totally immersive three-dimensional virtual reality report is the next step into the future of journalistic storytelling. It offers a fascinating view of a new world. This is exactly how journalism will be in the near future: We take the user with us to locations he would otherwise not be able to reach. He stands alongside Dirk Nowitzki on the basketball court – and soon he will accompany our reporters on the red carpets, touchlines, front lines of this world. I am convinced that a new era is beginning with virtual reality.”

BILD.de has put the production of the virtual reality video into practice with Jaunt VR, the leading high quality virtual reality startup from Silicon Valley, in which Axel Springer has held an interest since September 2015. Cutting edge  “stereoscopic” technology was used, by capturing the footage with their proprietary Jaunt ONE camera which has  24 lenses are used to create 3D-capable films. In order to experience Dirk Nowitzki in virtual reality, the user only needs to download the Jaunt app. With VR glasses or a Cardboard with a smartphone he can virtually experience the BILD interview. The 360 degree version of the video is also played by all the usual platforms and partners of BILD.de.

Apart from 360 degree videos, Periscope reports or live video formats on Facebook, BILD.de has, with Virtual Reality, extended the repertoire of innovative journalistic digital formats by a further essential component. Recently, the reporter Paul Ronzheimer took BILD users with him to Sinjar in the combat zone in northern Iraq as part of a virtual 360 degree report.

The video is available as a virtual reality version for download (the free Jaunt app must also be downloaded)

The video can also be played directly in a 360 degree version.
