KRAFTWERK D as new section in WELT KOMPAKT

To press release overview

iPad magazine from the Axel Springer Academy finds cross-media continuation in the newspaper

The Axel Springer Academy's iPad magazine KRAFTWERK D will have its own section in WELT KOMPAKT. The school of journalism's digital offering is thereby extended to the printed newspaper. The young journalists will report every Monday on extraordinary and previously overlooked people and achievements from all areas, from science to culture to sports and politics, which have helped to bring Germany forward. KRAFTWERK D was launched as the world's first iPad magazine from a school of journalism in December 2010.

"The new section means we are fully exploiting the journalistic value chain for the very first time", says Marc Thomas Spahl, Director of the Axel Springer Academy. "Cross-media project work has developed into high-quality paid content. And our students are now generating new topics from the readers' involvement in social media, researching and transforming these journalistically for the print series and producing a video podcast which leads readers back into the internet."

KRAFTWERK D was developed as a new journalistic format: a "Year in Review with a Future", for the iPad. The app uses all of the modern navigation and display options available on a tablet PC, offering features, audio slideshows, 3D graphics and HD quality videos. KRAFTWERK D is available in the German iTunes App-Store for Euro 2.39.

The Axel Springer Academy is the most modern school of journalism in Germany as well as the publisher's development laboratory and think tank. It combines the advantages of a journalism school's intensive individual education with those of a classical vocational training. Admission to the programme is highly competitive. Young journalists learn their trade from scratch within two years, with a focus on cross-media training and investigative research methodology.
