Reassignment of Executive Board responsibilities at Axel Springer SE

To press release overview

Responsibilities in line with new segment structure / Executive Board henceforth reduced to four members / Ralph Büchi to oversee international activities as President International from Zurich

Following the new segment structure with Paid Models, Marketing Models and Classified Ad Models which is aligned with the cross-media and corporate sources of revenues, and the planned sale of several newspaper and magazine titles to FUNKE MEDIENGRUPPE, the responsibilities for divisions within the Executive Board of Axel Springer SE will be adjusted from the end of the Annual General Meeting on April 16, 2014. At the same time, the Board is being reduced in size, to four members.

As already announced, the present Chief Financial Officer Lothar Lanz, 65, is leaving the Executive Board. He shall join the Supervisory Board.

Dr. Julian Deutz, 46, who joined the Executive Board in January 2014, is set to become Chief Financial Officer with responsibility for the commercial units and the HR division.

Jan Bayer, 43, previously President WELT Group and Printing, will henceforth as President BILD and WELT Group have responsibility for the national brands in the Paid Models segment, while the IT and domestic printing sites are also being assigned to him.

Dr. Andreas Wiele, 51, previously President BILD Group and Magazines, will be henceforth as President Marketing Models and Classified Ad Models responsible for the respective segments (including amongst others idealo and aufeminin.com and, respectively, amongst others SeLoger, Immonet and StepStone).

The international activities of Axel Springer SE are no longer grouped together in a separate segment following the implementation of the new segment structure, as a result of which Ralph Büchi, 56, previously President International division, is leaving the Executive Board. Alongside his present functions as CEO Axel Springer Switzerland and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ringier Axel Springer Media AG, he will oversee the international Paid Models of Axel Springer. In his function as President International, he will report directly to Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mathias Döpfner, 51, from the Zurich location.

The Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Axel Springer SE, Dr. Giuseppe Vita: “I would like to thank Lothar Lanz and Ralph Büchi for their outstanding work on the Executive Board. Their terms of office will always be linked with a crucial period of digital transformation of the company, which they helped to shape and expedite. So I’m particularly pleased to continue working with both of them in the new setup.”
